February in Ireland

Posted by Nancy Morrall on 1st Feb 2016

It is a cold, windy gray day here in Scottsdale.  The kind of day that reminds me of Ireland in the winter.  Many people come into our shop or write to us online asking for travel advice.  The most common question is "When is the best time of year to visit Ireland?"  My response is- All year is the best time to visit Ireland!

One of our favorite trips was during Jan./Feb. We were able to book airfare at an incredible price, take advantage of specials for lodging at several very nice hotels (one hotel we were the only guests), and enjoy almost empty roads and personalized service at every stop.

A few things to keep in mind in winter in Ireland that you should be aware of before you book your trip.

1.  Not all places are open during the winter months, such as boats to the Aran Islands, where the famous Aran Knit Sweaters are made, and some B&B's & restaurants. Check schedules for items on your bucket list to make sure they are available during the winter months

2.  Yes, it is cold, and windy, and rainy; we have been near frozen, as you can tell from our pictures below, yet also enjoyed days with brilliant sunshine.  It's Ireland, you never know what you are going to get minute by minute.
