Celebrating Ireland’s ancient culture and heritage in Knockcroghery, Co. Roscommon

During our journeys across Ireland, we never miss visiting the charming village of Knockcroghery in County Roscommon. This village boasts one of our beloved shops, Ogham Wish and Bog Buddies. Both enterprises are the brainchild of the skilled artist Ethel Kelly. Starting from a rundown claypipe building, it has blossomed into a bustling artistic hub that breathes life into Ireland's ancient Ogham script and the unique Irish bogs through exquisite, memorable gifts. Ethel handcrafts each item with immense love and attention to detail. Our website features a selection of Ogham Wish and Bog Buddies products that commemorate life's milestones such as weddings, births, and housewarmings.
Ogham represents the oldest form of writing known in Ireland, initially carved onto standing stones. These stones still dot the Irish, Scottish, and Welsh landscapes and sacred sites, dating back to 400 AD, featuring 20 distinct linear symbols read from bottom to top.
The Irish bogs, flat marshlands rich in peat, have historically provided turf for both household use and commercial purposes for centuries.
The deep historical roots of Ogham script and bog peat are evident in every artwork Ethel crafts. Should you find yourself nearby, do drop in to greet Ethel and her crew. Despite being engrossed in her creations, she always makes time for a warm conversation.
